1f95

For residents and tourists alike, you will never run out of things to do in San Antonio. If it’s entertainment you are looking for, then South Texas has all you need. From the nightlife to the wholesome family happenings, it’s sure to catch your attention

And when you talk about being entertained, going to the movies will always be a hands down choice. Right in the middle of Texas, you could find the extravagant and cutting-edge cinemas that will give you the viewing experience of your life. Majority of these cinemas offer a long list of blockbusters shown on gargantuan screens.

On the other hand, shopping is not far behind. Alamo City boasts of its shopping havens within the locality and around San Marcos, where a number of malls and boutiques are located – including the famous River Walk. With destinations like the River Walk, the scenery itself is already a great experience.

Not only that, places commonly visited by tourists just like the Alamo might turn out to be your chance to get in touch with the city’s colorful past. That’s because as the primary tourist attraction, the Alamo certainly has established itself in the pages of history.

When it comes to family enjoyment, San Antonio’s two major theme parks would be a great idea as well as the city’s water parks that operate all over the city.

Drop by the local parks to take a walk. This is one of the family-oriented pastimes you can do in San Antonio. Thanks to the wonderful weather, outdoor life in San Antonio is always active – at any time of the year.

Alamo City is also filled with sports-related events. Besides owning the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA as well as other minor league teams in baseball and hockey, this city organizes amateur athletic tournaments which include high school sports for people like you who might be interested.

The city of San Antonio did not leave culture behind. It’s the best place to expose you to culture through a number of destinations – cafes that promote poetry and art, museums and music establishments that play grass roots music.

If you have kids, then alphabet stamps can also provide them with endless fun. At http://alphabetstamps.org, you can find out more.

San Antonio, Texas is immortalized by the courage and sacrifices given by the Alamo Defenders and is filled with great history. In downtown San Antonio, visit the Alamo Museum and see for yourself displays, articles, and old weapons used during the time of the Alamo War. Down a short distance from the Alamo is the Texas Ranger Museum. It showcases the history and stories of the Rangers, but also recreates old San Antonio. In the center of Ranger Town is a Bonnie and Clyde exhibit depicting the ambush by the Texas Rangers. Across the street from the Texas Ranger Museum is the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum. Wall to wall heads keep their eyes pried to your back as you stroll through the vast displays of horns and antlers. Don’t let the name fool you. The museum holds more than buckhorns. Over the years, the museum has acquired a wide collection of fins, feathers, and snakes. In a separate show room is a collection of oddities. It has some rare and unusual things such as a six-legged lamb and a two-headed cow. At the close of the 1968 World’s Fair, the Buckhorn Museum inherited the Hall of Texas History Wax Museum pieces. If you’re not into history, pull up a stool and have a tall one at the saloon.

San Antonio is much more than a place of history. A short distance from the Alamo is the scenic Riverwalk. Bright lights and decorations welcome the passing visitor to stop and browse the colorful shops along the river’s edge. The aroma of the various restaurants will entice your palate to sample their wares. The San Antonio River beacons you to take a ride as it winds through the downtown region. Join a river tour narrated by a gondola or hop aboard a river taxi.

If that isn’t your thing, then cross the street from the Alamo and join in the fun of Ripley’s Believe It or Not Haunted Adventure. Take the coffin elevator to the top floor and witness weird and unusual things. Next door is the Guinness World Museum and beyond is the 3D Tomb Rider Adventure Ride.

Still not impressed? Cool off in Splashtown. A 2o acre family waterpark that offers 50 rides and attractions. Twist and slide down the famous football sized field of the Lone Star Luge. Six Flags Fiesta Texas also has a waterpark plus over 100 rides. If you want to cool off from the Texas heat but don’t like waterparks, then sit in rows 1 through 14 at Sea World and watch the whale show. You’ll be part of the entertainment and soaking wet.

Are you trying to entertain the kids, but don’t have much money? Head over to Hemisfair Park. It’s located in downtown San Antonio and still holds the 750 foot tall landmark from the World’s Fair. The park has a huge playground and cascading waterfalls. If you get hungry, the landmark has turned into a restaurant.

If you want to go on a shopping spree, but don’t want to take the kids, drop them off at the IMAX 3D Theatre at the Rivercenter Mall. They’ll enjoy the big screen experience and you’ll get your break.

San Antonio has a lot to offer visitors whether it’s history to entertainment. What are you waiting for? Come on down and stay a spell. You’ll be glad you did.

Everyone loves a trip to the movies, and when the theaters are as luxurious and modern as the ones in Texas then it takes it to a whole new level. Even though we have them in every town and city, we all love visiting a new mall. This entire area has some great outdoor shops and malls. The River walk is especially worth a visit, if only for its scenery.

Texas is one of the most historically interesting states in the whole of the US, and the most visited attraction is the Alamo. This monument to the men who gave their lives in that famous battle is a very moving experience. Entertaining kids on a vacation can be tough at times, but not in San Antonio. This city is home to two huge theme parks, water parks and local parks which have some lovely walks as well as other amenities.

Watching a game is always a great family favorite, and San Antonio benefits from many sporting venues. There are hockey and baseball teams that play in the minor league, and also a professional basketball team. If you are lucky enough to live in San Antonio, Texas, you will already be aware of the great choice of entertainments that are available for adults and families. If you are planning a trip there, here are a few of the best.

If you like a spot of culture, there is a great array of museums, art cafes and venues where you can hear real Texan grass roots music played. It’s incredibly easy to organize a trip to San Antonio. There are daily flights from all major cities and hotel rates are extremely reasonable.

1f61

I’d also suggest bringing a pair of discount binoculars (if you don’t know where to get these, http://discountbinoculars.net will give you some ideas), which are great for any sightseeing experience.

It’s the home of the Alamo … and so much more. Go here for picture of the Alamo – http://www.thealamo.org. One of the most interesting things to know is that The Alamo is smack in the middle of downtown San Antonio. Talk about centrally located!

I don’t know about you, but when I take kids on a vacation I want a little bit of everything – some fun, some thrills, some culture, some good food, a learning experience. San Antonio has it all.

THE ALAMO

Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, William Barrett Travis, Jim Bowie, and Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana Perez de Lebron, better known as Santa Ana, who decreed no prisoners would be taken … the line drawn in the sand …

“American frontiersmen – including some of their most colorful leaders – ( writes Lamont Wood) gather to support a revolution against a foreign despot, and hold out against massive odds. Until the climatic moment when they’re annihilated, taking large numbers of the enemy with them. Their sacrifice changes history.”

He continues: “There’s one thing wrong about this romantic tale, one that sets is apart from others like it: It did happen, as described. And since then the Alamo has lodged itself deeply into the American psyche… It has to do with the fact that we gauge our experiences against the extreme situations, not against average ones. The Alamo represents one such extreme. It teaches us that even if you’re surrounded, outnumbered ten to one, they’ve announced they’re taking no prisoners, and they’re pouring over the walls, within your soul you still have options. You can decide that something is worth dying for. That here is where you will stand. That here is where you will draw the line.”

Before you tour the Alamo, take in the IMAX movie, “The Price of Freedom”. It will tell the tale to your children, and stir your soul.

After you’ve seen the Alamo and visited the souvenir shop (get the kids a Davy Crockett outfit and pick up some bluebonnet seeds) check out the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum and the Plaza Wax Museum. Then take a horse-drawn carriage ride.

RIVERWALK

San Antonio’s RiverWalk is just down the way from the Alamo. You descend, via stairs, to find yourself in another world – 3 beautiful miles of shops, restaurants, clubs and artists. Take a boat ride and get the historical tour of the City as you look up at the buildings you pass. Come at Christmas time and it’s all lit with Christmas-tree lights. So relaxing and beautiful and very romantic.

How unique is it? It’s featured in movies, most recently “Miss Congeniality” with Sandra Bullock and William Shatner (Captain Kirk).

BUCKHORN SALOON AND HALL OF HORNS

Located a short two blocks from the Alamo you’ll find two stories of “the most exotic collection you’ve ever seen, from our unique horn collection, to cowboy memorabilia and fish from the Seven Seas, a two-headed calf and lamb with 8 legs.” There’s a shooting gallery and arcade, a restaurant, and of course a souvenir shop

BLUE STAR COMPLEX

A complex of former warehouses with galleries and studios, contemporary art, student exhibits, alternative theater and a brew pub with hand crafted beers and good things to eat. The Blue Star Complex has family art-oriented activities year round.

WATER FUN

Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort is located in the quaint town of New Braunfels, just 30 miles from the SA airport.

A family-owned resort, it includes something for everyone – tubing river rapids, a five-story high water fun house, an all-out water cannon fight, thrill rides for the teens, and water playgrounds for the little ones, with lifeguards (Lagoon Kiddie Park, Pollywog Pond, Kinderhaven, Squirt ‘n’ Sliden) and huge relaxing hot tubs (paddle on up to the bar for snacks, soda pop and mixed drinks). Everyone from the toddler to the great-grandparents can enjoy a day here.

Admission to the park includes all water rides and attractions, use of inner tubes, life vests, bodyboards, and tram service. Tips from a frequent visitor: wear some water shoes. The pavement gets hot in the summer!

Schlitterbahn is open full-time mid-May through August. Schedule is posted on their website, as well as driving instructions.

WHILE IN NEW BRAUNFELS:

Play the small but challenging 9-hole golf course, spend some time at John Newcombe’s Tennis Ranch or have a picnic in Landa Park, including train rides, paddles boats, rope swing, and a swim in the Comal River.

There are also some great German bakeries and restaurants, and 6 miles west of town is Dry Comal Creek Vineyards – “Pretty enough to be nestled on the hillside of a California valley or strategically placed in the rolling hills of southern France.”

You won’t want to miss the Snake Farm and Exotic Animal Park – part of the “Corridor of Curiosities,” it’s an experience. It just has a nice feel to it, like the trips you took when you were a kid. And if you’re a Hummel fan, the New Braunfels Museum of Art & Music (formerly Hummel Museum) features Hummel figurines and the sketches and paintings that started it all

GRUENE, TX – “Gently resisting change for 100 Years”

Just down the road from New Braunfels, situated on the Guadalupe River, you’ll find Gruene, Texas. At the Grist Mill Restaurant you can dine outside overlooking the River and enjoy some Texas fried catfish and pinto beans and great strawberry shortcake. Spend the night at the Gruene Mansion Inn (http://www.gruenemansioninn.com ), listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a Texas Historic Landmark And don’t miss Gruene Hall, the oldest running dance hall in Texas, and the location of that wonderful dancehall scene in “Michael.” Screened in, live music, a step back in time. I know I’ve seen some oldtimers playing dominoes around the bar. They have a Gospel Brunch with a Texas Twist and a huge buffet every 2nd Sunday.

NATURAL BRIDGE CAVERNS

See one of the longest soda straw formations in North American – 14′ in length. What’s that? Come find out. Pan for Hidden Gems at the Mining Company.

Option – The Adventure Tour … if you dare. A new spelunking experience. Physically demanding, you’ll be outfitted with cavinf fear and may be lowered by rope through a 160′ shaft (or use the walk-in tunnel). Includes rapelling, On the Adventure Tour you will be outfitted with caving gear and may be lowered by rope through a 160 foot well shaft or use the walk-in tunnel

NATURAL BRIDGE WILDLIFE RANCH

Texas-style, drive through, and the animals will come right up to the car – complimentary feed given upon entrance. There’s a Petting Zoo and Walk-a-Bout. Open daily. Over 50 different species from addax antelope to zebras, llamas to ostriches. “Horn-to-horn combat, birth of newborns, and mating rituals” included.

MARKET SQUARE

Billed as the largest Mexican marketplace outside of Mexico, it’s a great way to spend a couple of hours, with shops, entertainment, restaurants, and often a Mexican Festival of some sort being celebrated.

I told you there was something for everyone, and I haven’t even mentioned The Missions Trails, a tour of Spanish missions or the Alamodome. And of course the two big themeparks – Seaworld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

The city is home to many of the most visited and unique attractions in Texas, giving tourists plenty of options as to what to see and do while visiting.

Once you’ve arrived and gotten your feet on the ground, the fun is ready to begin! There is something to do here for just about everyone, from the exciting family fun of major theme parks like Six Flags Fiesta Texas and SeaWorld San Antonio to historic locations like the world-famous Alamo, the historic Missions and the gorgeous River Walk, referred to by many as the Texan Riviera. Besides it’s combination of rich history and Old World charm, San Antonio is full of stunning architecture, culturally relevant arts, culture, and educational museums, rightly making it the number one tourist destination in Texas.

The pleasant temperatures in San Antonio average in the 60s year-round. You’ll have to biggest chance of coming across a few rainy days during the late spring and mid fall. On those days a trip to one of the museums or even to the six-story San Antonio IMAX theater may be a great way to pass the time. If you like it hot, the real warm weather comes in the summer months, when the humidity is higher and temperatures can rise way above 90. To take advantage of the great Texas climate, you’ll find that sightseeing excursions to The Alamo, Hemisfair Park and River Walk are truly unbeatable ways to spend a day here.

The famous San Antonio Zoo, which is currently home to over 3,500 animals, is one of the city’s top attractions for both kids and grown-ups alike. You’ll find that San Antonio offers vacationers a large number of quality choices for dining and lodging, making your stay as satisfying and relaxing as possible. From some of the world’s best Tex-Mex cuisine served in an authentic Texas manner, to both four-star and budget accommodations, making a San Antonio vacation experience a vacation experience of a lifetime!
